Euro-Pro TO156 Extra-Large-Capacity 6-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Euro-Pro TO156 Extra-Large-Capacity 6-Slice Toaster OvenThe Euro-Pro, which I purchased around Christmas 2006, has been an excellent value for me. It can be found at several major retailers, and I paid less than $30 for mine at Best Buy. Now, if you're all about snob appeal (or a stainless steel chassis) then you'd probably do better buying a Kitchenaid toaster. Sure, you'll pay five times the price, but that's what you get when you desire snob appeal. Actually, you get more than that with the Kitchenaid, but my level of culinary expertise doesn't require the extra features of the higher-priced brands.

Let me extol the virtues of this oven point by point:

1. The Price: It's cheap. It's really cheap.

2. The Look: No, it doesn't have the flair of the stainless steel models, but its clean, white chassis is certainly not offensive.

3. The size: It's not too big, not too small. It doesn't dominate your limited countertop, but it's much roomier inside than similarly-priced models. The Durabrand competitor from Wal-Mart is miniscule compared to this one. Unlike other models at this price, there are two racks inside!

4. Ease of cleaning: I once had a small Black & Decker oven that had a little latch at the bottom that made the bottom swing open. It was an interesting idea, but not always practical. With this one, there is a sliding crumb tray. You simply slide it out and rinse it off. Then you return to its position and you're good to go. It fits very nicely and I've not had one crumb get past it and stick to the bottom of the oven.

5. Ease of operation: It's almost a no-brainer. You have a "bake," "broil," and "toast/pizza" setting. There is a temperature setting that ranges up to 450 degrees. There's a 60 minute timer (rotary dial). There's a red light to indicate that the power is "on." Nothing more, nothing less.

6. Performance: I'm certain that a $150 oven would do better. It had better do better! But if you're looking for a BASIC toaster/countertop oven, you're probably not going to find one better. It does exactly what it claims it will do: Bake, Broil, and Toast. Don't be misled by the "Pizza" setting though. It is really for a slice of pizza or one of those small, plate-sized pizzas. If you want to bake a 16-inch pizza, you're still going to rely on the "big" oven in your kitchen.

Of course, an oven this cheap isn't without a few blemishes as well.

1. The rotary timer doesn't seem to work too well for anything under five minutes.

2. Using the black baking tray on the "toast" setting (where the heat comes from above) will blacken/burn your food. Use this tray ONLY while in the "bake" mode. This isn't a fault of the oven, but many users will probably make the same mistake I did.

3. I burned some food in my oven and now I have an ugly brown haze around the door. I scrubbed a bit too hard with a solution of orange cleaner and a Brill-o pad. Now, I have an ugly brown haze with scratches! Overall, this is a good oven. It would make a great gift (Christmas, housewarming, or wedding). I think it would be ideal in a dorm room or similarly-sized living arrangement. Now, aside from pizza bites and tater tots, you can also bake a chicken breast or broil a few chops too!

Sanyo SK-7W Space Saving Toasty Oven, White Review

Sanyo SK-7W Space Saving Toasty Oven, WhiteI've had this model for nearly two years now.It takes nearly twice as long to toast bread as a normal toaster, because it has energy saving quartz elements, which don't heat up as quickly. Since there is no temperature control, there is only one setting - really hot.
This could ruin your day if you just want to reheat something through, so here's a piece of advice:for things like frozen pies, pizza and reheating rolls, put them on the top shelf and turn the heating element knob to Bottom Rack. That way you don't char the surface while the interior stays cold.
The 'Bagel Best' setting is great for people who, like Sting, like their toast (or bagels) done on one side. It's a nifty feature, but the bottom line is that this toaster oven is limited to toasting and heating only certain kinds of foods.I would recommend it for people who want just a very basic toaster oven.
I want more versatility in a toaster oven these days, so I am shopping for a new one.

Product Description:
The oven selector allows you to use just the top rack, just the bottom rack, or both. It even has a Bagel Best option which activates just the middle heating element - and that means your cut side gets toasted while the exterior gets warm. With all these options you can bake, toast, and reheat or warm foods. The time also has a Bagel Best option, as well as timing for up to 15 minutes. Unlike toasters this unit can accommodate really thick breads and pastries, yet its small footprint won't take up more space than a toaster.

Waring Pro TCO600 1500-Watt 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven Review

Waring Pro TCO600 1500-Watt 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oventhis is our first convection oven, we've searched around for a while for a convection oven that was in this price rangebut every other oven we read about on here, Target, and Sears had electrical and fire problems with them. Since I didn't see the first review on this oven before I bought mine I probably wouldn't have bought it, but since owning this model for half a month its pretty good for the price. This oven cooks better than our old gas oven. After each use I make sure I unplug and that goes with any device that generates heat, I mean would you leave an electric heater running when your not using it, no you unplug it. On the first few days of owning this model we baked pizza's in it up to 400 degrees for 30min front to back and we didn't run across any problems. So far so good. I recommend this model if you read the instructions before using it.

Black & Decker 6-Slice Countertop Toast-R-Ovens Review

Black & Decker 6-Slice Countertop Toast-R-OvensI've owned this B&D for about 5 months now and I'm extremely pleased.A big issue for most of the other reviewers seems to revolve around the toaster timer and that may well be.Maybe they are used to using the same type of bread every day and figuring out the right setting of a toaster and then never having to change it, but I don't toast that often and whenever I have I always watch it to see when it gets to the right color then I turn it off.The good news related to toasting - it evenly colors both sides, so my toast is better than ever!
But more often I use it for heating little frozen pizza's and other frozen foods which do much better in an oven than in a microwave, and this does GREAT at that, better than my GE Profile gas oven. I find that things are done in the exact time specified in the instructions, and with my GE oven I have to set it hotter than the instructions, and run it 5 - 10 minutes longer than the directions call for.And its hot and ready to cook in a minute or two vs. 5 or more for the GE.
I haven't had any problem with the door, seems to work fine to me, and I'm aware of heat issues with toasters so I keep a little space around it which I think would be a good rule for any one purchased.

Elite Professional Extra Large Toaster Oven Broiler - 23L - ERO-2008S Review

Elite Professional Extra Large Toaster Oven Broiler - 23L - ERO-2008SI have been a countertop oven user for 20 yrs-even when my three children were @ home. Takes up less space and uses less energy. With the invention of the microwave, who needs a big stove. I use a countertop 2 burner hotplate also.

When my Maximatic ERO2006S (which I stumbled upon @ a discount warehouse) retired after many years (6-8) of faithful service, after much searching for the perfect replacement and finding many worthy contenders, I stuck w/Maximatic and went for the upgrade (Elite Professional ExLarge-23L-ERO2008S) which is a better value, I think, than the ERO2006S and definately worth the extra money.

This little oven is a big bang for the buck. I just love it. Rotisserie, broil, roast, bake, steams? griddle and oh yeah-makes great toast too. Roomy enough to roast 6-8 lb (at least) chicken or turkey breast. W/separately purchased pizza stone-a pizza oven. W/separately purchased steamer-a veggie steamer as well.

Listing @ just $10.00 more than its older model, Maximatic has kicked it up a notch or two. W/its updated snazzier look and larger size (height & width pretty much the same but depth, front to back is where most of the extra room is). Also much roomier cooking top. Profile is angled w/more room near the bottom which gives it a nice look. Looks much better than as pictured.

This one has a 'stay on' and timer function w/bell too. Yay!

The roomier multi-use top is very handy (why don't they all do this ???). The well thought out combo design enables the heat in the top to be put to good use as a steamer and warmer when roasting/baking/broiling. This was the biggest reason for choosing Maximatic in the first place and then replacing it w/the newer model. The top used as griddle is another cooking option (though seems somewhat cramped).

I was hoping a standard 9x13 would fit, but 2 8x8 works too. I have located some great cookware that does fit so not a priority or problem.

The brand is not well known @ least to me. The price was right for my first Maximatic and I was in a bind so I grabbed it, but would never have purchased an unknown or little-known brand if given a choice. The first one did not disappoint and I'm hoping this one will last as that one did.

Euro-Pro TO161 Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Euro-Pro TO161 Convection 6-Slice Toaster OvenWe live in a climate with hot summers and don't like to use the regular gas oven if we can avoid it.I bought this unit at our local HEB grocery for $37 and am pleased with it.

Pros:It holds a 12" plate or pizza thanks to a curved bulge in the back
Comes with two racks and three different positions for them
The convection feature (a small fan that circulates the hot air) really does keep the temperature even
Due to the large interior size, food isn't too close to the heating elements, so you can use temp & time settings similar to a real oven

Cons:The racks don't slide in and out very easily; extreme caution is needed if using a casserole or anything else heavy
The settings around the dial are in very small print and it's hard to be sure you have them where you want them
Since there isn't a dedicated toast darkness feature, you have to set it every time on the mechanical timer and really watch to make sure you don't overtoast

Rival TO600 6-Slice Countertop Toaster OvenI purchased this oven about six months ago, thinking I would use it just every now and then.I now use it almost every day!I haven't turned my regular oven on since I purchased this one!I love that it fits a large frozen pizza, none of the other ovens I looked at even approached the versatility. The only compaint I have is the quality of the pans that came with the unit are mediocre, but I use my own and the oven itself works like a dream.

T-Fal OT8065002 Avante Elite Toaster Oven Review

T-Fal OT8065002 Avante Elite Toaster OvenI've had the Avante Elite Toaster Oven for about 6 months now and have used it almost every day since I bought it.I originally bought it thinking I'd mainly use it for toast but after experimenting with different items I found that it can serve as a pretty adequate oven/stove top.I'm far from a gourmet chef so this review is from the perspective of someone who can follow a recipe to make a tasty treat but who has never broasted or flambayed and who doesn't yet know what parboiled means.

As a toaster:Just about excellent. It does the "Toast" function very well.Toast was just the right amount of crunchy. The "Toast" setting also adjusts its toasting time pretty accurately so that if the oven is still hot from having used it to cook something, it will set itself to toast for less time. However I have noticed that if I've used the oven on the "Broil" setting (which gets it VERY hot) I need to remove the items from the oven a little earlier than when it actually thinks it will be done.If I left them in there until the timer went off they wouldn't get burnt or even overly dark, just darker than I personally like.I've also made toasty sandwhiches with the Toast feature.I make my sandwhich on buns or french bread and stick them in the oven, set it to Toast, and they come out toasty and melty like you would get at Quiznos.

As an oven: Excellent. The oven part of the Avante Elite cooks meat thoroughly and fairly evenly.I've cooked chicken, beef, hot dogs, breaded eggplant patties, and frozen entrees.I've also baked pizzas and banana bread. All came out pretty delicious.I usually rotate the pizzas once during cooking because the back end of the oven tends to cook things faster than the front end.The oven itself is larger than it looks.I've been able to fit all the frozen pizzas I've tried (including the fairly large Digiorno pizzas).

As a stove top:Great!I don't know if the manufacturers intended for the top "warmer" to be used as a makeshift stove top but that's what I've used it for many many times.I set the oven to the "Broil" setting (caution, it gets the whole oven very hot, but that's the very reason I use this setting) and place a stove-top safe dish on top and then fry, boil, saute or cook *almost* as I would on a normal stove top.I've fried bacon (using the included baking sheet although the bacon can be cooked inside the oven with the included broil pan) and eggs, cooked spaghetti, sauteed vegetables and tofu and have even tried cooking corn and rice up there. The corn and rice are a bit harder because the water doesn't come to a fast boil as it would on a real stove top so unless you have a lot of time, the corn and rice will have to be cooked elsewhere. The top warmer also is somewhat warped (probably from all the extreme temperature changes it undergoes) and so I had to buy a tiny egg-frying pan (it's so cute!if I'm able to add my pictures to this page, you'll see it) so that the egg would cook evenly. That is, I tried to put the baking sheet down first and then fry the egg on that but the egg just slid to one corner of the sheet and I had to make scrambled eggs that day instead. Those came out pretty good though!

So if you want a great toaster that also does justice to the "oven" part of its name AND works great as a makeshift stove top, this toaster oven is worth the money.

Chicago Metallic Toaster Oven Baking Set Review

Chicago Metallic Toaster Oven Baking SetFor 6 months, I had only a toaster oven, so I used it to cook everything. This pan set was perfect, and surprisingly great quality.I used either the cookie sheet or the cake pan nearly every day for roasting, baking, broiling. The nonstick is great, the metal is thick and sturdy. These don't seem cheesy at all, especially compared with other sets.

The pan's capacity is about the same as a square 8x8 or 9x9, so you don't have to change quantities for cornbread, brownies, etc.

Now I have a full oven, and no toaster oven anymore, but I still use these pans all the time to cook for just the 2 of us.

Cuisinart TTOB-30BW Toaster Oven/Broiler Review

Cuisinart TTOB-30BW Toaster Oven/BroilerI have owned our Cuisinart TOB-30 series for less then 3 months andwe were very happy with it, until one day we noticed the unit would not shut off when turned to the off setting, the light would remain on and there is still being heat generated in the oven in the off position, then within a week, when you would turn the unit to the bake selection, it would not turn on and sparks would shoot out the back, only the toast feature remains working, and if you turn the knob to go through other settings sparks are generated. If you have the same situation I highly recommend you goto www.cpsc.gov the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and let them know of your concern, maybe we can get these recalled, it appears to be a faulty switch they are using.Im not hearing positive things about there service, but if you buy one, save your receipt and warranty information, you may need it and be aware of the unit at some point may not shut off unless you unplug it (if you go on vacation, etc)

KitchenAid KMTT200 Toaster, 2 Slice Review

KitchenAid KMTT200 Toaster, 2 SliceI have the all steel version.
Pros: Very solid construction. Although is quite large, it is good looking and gives you the feeling of something that will last a long time. Very even toasting, works great, and the outside stays totally cool. After several cycles it does eventually get warm, but not hot.
I like it a lot, except for one thing:
Negative: The slots are just a little too short. It fits only the regular Mrs Baird's type of bread loaf.
If you try to toast any other type of shorterand wider bread, it will not fit in the slots as they are about 1/2 inch shorter than the slice of bread. If you look at it, it is obvious that there was enough room to extend the slots at least another inch in front. The design team at KitchenAid must be eating one type of bread only, otherwise they would have run into this problem (or perhaps they don't use this toaster).
I wanted to return it because of this, but I already threw away the box (I guess this proves I am a moron), so I am stuck with it.

Nordic Ware Toaster Oven 1.5 Quart Casserole Pan Review

Nordic Ware Toaster Oven 1.5 Quart Casserole PanMy widowed mother-in-law badly needed a pan to use in her toaster oven and was delighted when I found this little Nordic Ware casserole pan; it was the perfect size.Within a month, however, the black non-stick coating began to peel in dime-size circles. She never puts anything in her dishwasher and is a diligent rule-follower -- I know this was not something she caused.I have no doubt Bed, Bath & Beyond will replace it, but it doesn't look like there are any other choices.I would much prefer to buy her something heavier and well made without a non-stick coating. We'll see.

Cons: doesn't work well: gets really hot on the outside glass (melts things that touch it); toast feature works sometimes and sometimes does not (cheap wiring?)

DeLonghi RO2058 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven with Rotisserie Review

DeLonghi RO2058 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven with RotisserieI owned a Delonghi before and it died of old age.I loved it and decided to get this one.1.Description says it's red; it's black; 2.It only goes up to 390 degrees for baking; 3.The broiler pan doesn't sit on the rack; it has it's own slot. However, broiling time is greater than my last one; fat on steak never even sizzled. When you attempt to remove the broiling pan, as it isn't resting on anything, it tilts when you take it out and it could drop and injure someone, or if using a pot holder, it could catch fire; 4.I made toast and had to put it through twice and it burned part and the rest wasn't toasted. It is now being made in China and as with most things from there, it is very inferior.Too bad.

Cuisinart Convection Toaster Oven Broiler Review

Cuisinart Convection Toaster Oven BroilerI have had this oven for several months now. I missed an opportunity to by it as a factory refurbished unit, and ended up buying it new here. Initially, I wanted to hold out for a convection oven with a larger capacity, but the reality of unit size and lack of availability of a larger oven with similar features convinced me to by this model.

I think I made the right choice. It is large enough to bake and broil a wide variety of things without having to resort to the "big oven", it has accurate, even temp control, and enough features and custom settings that I am still discovering new and better ways to use it.

It is a pretty large oven, does everything advertsed in best of class fashion, it's very easy to clean, and looks "right" no matter how your kitchen is outfitted. Even simple tasks like making toast are handled better than any regular toaster or cheap toaster oven that I have tried. When toasting bread or bagles, the first part of the cycle brings the bread up to teperature without bringing the heat elements up to "toasting" tepmerature. Towards the end of the cycle, the elements glow bright red, and toast both surfaces very evenly, and to taste. The result is perfectly toasted bread, bagles, pizza slices, etc, without cold centers. The cycle can easily be tailored for your favorite bread. Perfect.

Before I forget, someone posted a "review" here that really was a question about what temp the oven is capable of. The oven can also broil, so that would indicate that it can reach high temps, and in fact, it can. The "bake" setting allows you to select a temerature on the display up to 500 degrees. Most any cooking technique that can be done with a quality conventional oven can be done with this gem. And more. When I first started using the oven, I checked it's indicated temp with my electronic thermometer that I use for calibrating industrial sensors. In every case, the indicated air temp was within a few degrees of reality. My full sized oven wasn't anywhere near that close when it was new.

Broiling, baking, defrosting, and reheating leftovers are also given the benefit of digital control over the cooking cycle. Even the crumb tray was designed for effective operation, and ease of cleaning. I have used a number of dedicated convection ovens, and more than a few toaster ovens over the years, but this one is in a class by itself. Even if you grew up with the microwave, this oven won't gather dust on your countertop.

Update... July 12, 2005. This oven is used most every day, and has proved to be a solid performer. As time passed, I have used pretty much all of the functions of the oven, and learned to customize settings to please me along the way. I have not had a single problem with the oven since the day it arrived, and being easy to keep clean, it still looks factory new (when I clean it). It is about as large as I care to have on the countertop, and for bigger jobs, I simply use the main kitchen oven. For most anything else, this is the oven that gets the call. I still rate five stars.

Cuisinart TOB-50BC Classic 6-Slice Toaster Oven Broiler, Brushed Stainless Steel Review

Cuisinart TOB-50BC Classic 6-Slice Toaster Oven Broiler, Brushed Stainless SteelGreat looking stainless steel finish on top that does get hot to the touch (more so than then other materials). This unit replaced the 3rd B&D that I've owned over the past 25 years.Having only Black & Decker toaster ovens in the past, I got used to the oven shutting off when the door is opened. This one stays on; you must turn it off manually.I'm not saying that's good or bad, just something you might have to get used to.This toaster does a great job of baking, broiling and toasting. No problems there.I do find that "6 slices" is really pushing it... I'd call it a 4 slice toaster with some room to spare. My only complaint is the way they configured the crumb tray. When you pull it out to clean, there's so little clearance that quite lot of crumbs end up on the counter. They should have made the crumb tray a little deeper so that the debris wouldn't be scraped off when you pull the tray out.

Granite Ware Mini Toaster Oven Cookie Sheet Review

Granite Ware Mini Toaster Oven Cookie SheetThis product couldn't be better, it is just the right size when a large cookie sheet is too big. It is non stick just by being porcelain over metal. It is so easy to wash that I do them by hand because it seems like we have so many uses for them.

I loved them so much I tracked down the company to order their 14" pizza pan. It is available through Amazon marketplace but you get soaked on the shipping charges. Because it is darker the bottom crust gets nice and cooked just when the cheese is ready.

No wonder I saw so many of these Granite Ware products in households when I was little, I am in my fifties now. What I can't understand is why I don't see them in households today. I discovered they are wonderful products quite by accident. How did such a wonderful product become so under appreciated.

One person mentioned that the instructions for this pan says don't use pot holders or mitts, but this person is mistaken, it says do use pot holders or mitts.

Nordic Ware Toaster Oven Pizza/Crisping Sheet Review

Nordic Ware Toaster Oven Pizza/Crisping SheetFor one person this is a great item.French fries come out nice and crispy like they were deep fried but without the grease!

I put fries or tater tots on the tray and give them a quick spray with cooking spray, season them then just cook in the toaster oven.Pizza reheated came out great also and so did frozen chicken patties.

If there are two people look into getting the larger size for a stove oven, this tray cooks for one reheating pizza or cooking fries or tater tots.

Well worth the small amount it costs.

Cuisinart TOB-165 Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, White Review

Cuisinart TOB-165 Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, WhiteI have a toaster oven graveyard out in my dumpster. I was buying name brands and subjecting them to only moderate use, yet we were going through the things faster than pet goldfish.
For my most recent purchase I decided to pay for top quality. I based my purchase decision on my experience with other Cuisinart products and extensive reading of reviews from many sources. I've had my oven for about six months now, and I've been heartily pleased with my selection.
Besides durability, my chief concern in shopping had been size. It turns out this is even bigger than what I had before--both wide and tall. I can fit Corningware pans with the domed lids and knobs on top. Yet the outer dimensions are quite modest.
I wasn't sure I would use the convection feature, and in fact didn't get around to it until last week. It produced an excellent roast chicken, and I probably will use it more and more to make "weekend" dishes during the week. The additional cost for the convection over the regular was small, so it's definitely worth it even for occasional use.
The oven itself functions admirably. I love that it beeps when it's fully preheated, and the heat sensor really does keep it constantly and evenly heated to the correct temperature. I'm using this much more than my regular oven, especially during the summer.
The controls are easy to use and well thought-out as far as flow and intuitive functions. The only thing I'm not crazy about is setting the timer--one press for every minute, one for every hour. Gets to be a pain when you're setting 45 minutes. But, that is balanced out by the fact that the timer alarm keeps beeping until you come turn it off. No one little "ding" that you miss because you've stepping into the other room for a minute, leaving your food to burn.
Toasting is uneven as noted elsewhere, but this is typical of toaster ovens. Adjusting the rack can help. And honestly, it's really only an aesthetic problem. I do like that the toasting fuction includes a countdown timer so you know how long until breakfast!
My only real complaint lies with the broiler pan. Upon first inspection out of the box I was pleased with its apparent quality. But on the very first use it warped, and now buckles significantly on every use. Further, after the first washing I took it out of the drying rack only to discover rust along the bottom edge where water had pooled. I didn't even think it could rust, let alone do it on its first contact with water. I have to think my specific pan is lemon, as for them all to be like this would just be inexcusable in a product of such otherwise impeccable quality.
Also, the design team really fell apart when it came to the oven rack on which this pan sits. The rack--at least in one of its positions--actually wraps around the front corners of the pan. This means in order to take the pan out of the oven you have to lift it 1/2" vertically over the rack. Lift it and whatever's on it, plus whatever hot grease has accumulated, with nothing to grab it by. The other option is to take the rack out with it, which means tilting everything 30 degrees to get it past the stops. Not only is this bad design, it's dangerous.
But since I'm not using the pan every day, and since I love everything else about it, I'll still give it five stars.

OvenStuff Non-Stick 6-Piece Toaster Oven Baking Pan Set Review

OvenStuff Non-Stick 6-Piece Toaster Oven Baking Pan SetIf you DO NOT need the NONSTICK coating/feature, then this is a decent set.

If you DO want NONSTICK, then do not buy this set. This set is of decent quality as to the weight of the pans and construction. The "Non-Stick" feature is quite questionable. To look at the pans, you would not think that they are nonstick because of the finish of the metal. They are not coated with anything at all.

So far, I have only used the cookie sheet and the cookies did stick a bit. I think you would have to use nonstick spray/butter/grease on each pan in order for it to be nonstick.

The small pizza pans are cute. They are extremely shallow though. It is basically a flat tray with a rolled rim.

The cookie sheet holds about six cookies of a small size. It only takes up half of a rack in my toaster oven. I was really hoping it was going to be at least slightly bigger. It was the main thing that I wanted. I was not able to find them in any local stores. I saw the set here and figured I might as well just get that. If the cookie sheet did not have the shaped sides/gripsides, it would allow more baking space. I did read the dimensions, but never thought of the shaped sides as taking up so much of it.

The main downfall of this set is the lack of nonstick, since it is advertised in the product name itself. As I said, the actual construction of the pans is ok quality for the price. I think they should omit "Non-Stick" from the product name though. It is misleading.

This is my toaster oven and I highly recommend it.

Hamilton Beach 31199R Countertop 1.1-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven with Optional Rotisserie Review

Hamilton Beach 31199R Countertop 1.1-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven with Optional RotisserieBefore buying this particular oven, I read as many product reviews as could be found. They were for a similar Hamilton Beach Oven but not this exact one.And many were quite negative. But it seemed to be just what I wanted. This would be my third countertop oven. The first one lasted over 25 years. The second one, only about 8 years. It arrived earlier than predicted, always a plus.I burned every single thing I put in it for the first week. Not the oven's fault.I'm laughing as I write this.It is so efficient and works so well and I forgot the times on the previous oven were due to it's "dying" process. So, didn't think to compensate for a "new" oven.Well, now I'm doing much better and things are marvelous from this little jewel.Cookies, main dishes, heating up sauces quickly, (I just moved, gave away my microwave and decided not to buy another), sandwiches, even toast from atisan breads are perfectly cooked. So all the burnt foods were obviously "operator error".

At first, I worried what oven ware would fit into it but no worries.I now have a very tall stack of things that will fit comfortably in this oven including several 12-inch glass baking dishes for pizza and cookies. I only had to buy cookie sheets as all the rest (bread pans, muffin tins, springform cake pan, angelfood cake pan, etc) all fit inside very nicely. And best of all, the really large and oversized items can be given away, taking up less storage space in a space-challenged apt.

I would buy this oven again and again. It's the best. Oh, yes, the "bell" rings at the completion of cooking times and I can hear it in the most distant places of this apt. We've had really hot weather this summer and I've so appreciated only having to heat the kitchen for very few minutes to cook meals then a very quick cool down afterwards.I've not even turned on the large stove/oven that is built in to this apt.And I don't plan to, either. This oven is all I need.Oh, yes, I've been using it since the end of July 2007 - slightly under a month and with daily usage.

Proctor Silex 31117 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, Black Review

Proctor Silex 31117 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, BlackYou really can go wrong with this item - it's very affordable and designed decently for it's price range. The only issues I have with it are:

1. Once the rotary timer is set, you can't stop it - however, you could simply set heat = 0 and wait for the timer to end.

2. The food tray is apparently "wrapped" around another thin metal layer, which is a potential bacteria trap, since it's nearly impossible to clean without damaging the tray...so don't go naked...just use aluminum foil around the tray.

Would recommend for studio apartments / college students and would buy again.

Owned for 3 weeks at the time of this writing.

Proctor Silex 31115 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, White Review

Proctor Silex 31115 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, WhiteThis little toaster oven gets the job done for me. I think the quality is a little bit better, it is a little deeper making it a little bigger and the tempeture is more consistant than the other units in it's price range. I am still looking for the right setting on the tempeture and once I find it I will most likely leave it there. I think it will end up somewhere between 350 and 400. Below that takes to long and above that setting the food tends to get a little over cooked on the outside.

One thing that concerned me was the safety instructions, which I always read. They do not want you to use aluminum foil or any non Proctor Silex cooking trays in this unit. I always use aluminum foil and it does not seem to cause any problem. Perhaps they are just covering for themselves in case something goes wrong because you never know what sort of crazy stuff people are going to put into their ovens. This is the only thing that concerns me. Otherwise the little oven is working out real good. I think it will last us quite a while. Usually we get rid of them because they get to dirty or get a little old looking more then it is a problem that they wear out or break. The last one cost us about $10 and lasted almost a year. This one cost a little more but I am sure it will last longer.

We have had expensive confection ovens that cost well over $100 but I decided to save my money because this one gets the job done and does what we need it to do. Esp with the extra 2 inches of depth this is a nice sized little unit.

Proctor Silex 31114 Extra-Large Toaster Oven/Broiler, White Review

Proctor Silex 31114 Extra-Large Toaster Oven/Broiler, WhiteThe 31114 is same or nearly same as proctor silex 31115 which I couldn't get anywhere. I wanted a simple toaster oven to toast or bake evenly, not a big bulky fancy convection oven - for that amount of counter space I might as well use the regular oven. Amazon listed the 31115 in stock with two vendors but neither turned out to be able to get it. Searched online, Toaster-oven.net had this and another few models, at reasonable cost. Ticking isn't that loud as one 31115 review complained - distinct enough in kitchen, but don't hear it much from another room. Toasts breads or english muffin or bakes my chicken wings evenly. Compared to my ancient, finally-expired toaster-oven (costs too much to get parts & have fun repairing, if could find the right parts without hassle), this new one differs in that it has a single fat element on top and on bottom, not two - which somehow do a pretty even job, unlike most toaster ovens today, or pop-up toasters. That's why I got it. Unlike other gizmos, I don't need bells & whistles and want my toaster to be mechanically simple, so if it breaks it's cheap to either fix or replace, and it's less likely to break because it's simple (we hope). Has a bit deeper baking pan than the old toaster oven too (good - & BTW, alum foil works fine for lining it to save gunkyness, as long as you wrap it neatly around the edges, not leaving big floppy edges hanging down or sticking up). For this review, I checked to see if 4 slices of bread do fit into it, and they do, though I don't need that. Keep an eye on your toast in the beginning to learn where on the dial your toast darkness preference is reached, and RTFM (read the simple instructions when you get it) which say to set the upper dial on the toast icon, then turn the lower dial past the 5 minute mark to initialize it, and then backwards to your preferred toast setting. Bell rings when time's up. Door has a very nice downward-curving handle that stayed cool, made it handy to open the door. Doesn't take up a lot of counterspace - it's a traditional style and simple toaster oven, which is exactly what I wanted but harder to find nowadays. I like the slight curve towards the top which makes the top slightly narrower than the bottom - makes it feel more compact than it already is, without affecting internal capacity. The company makes similar black models, too, if you don't like white.
Addendum 1 year later:Still working great!

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven Review

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster OvenI wrote two reviews for this oven because I ended up purchasing it twice. The first one shocked me with its terrible functioning, but as of purchasing the second one, I have no complaints with its operation (thus far).I wonder if these ovens suffer from some quality control issues. In order, here are my reviews:

Review #1:This is quite possibly one of the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life and I seriously hope my model is simply defective.

(1) It entire oven itself shakes and buzzes. The vibrations are terrible.
(2) The glass door touches the front of the oven and makes a loud buzzing noise. If you push against the handle, it quiets down a bit, but it's still as loud as a hair dryer. Not a comforting noise, especially listening from another room. I would say it's like listening to a bathroom fan or a jackhammer (from 2 blocks away).
(3) The fan is noisy. It starts and stutters and makes noises as if it is hitting the metal enclosure inside. If you've ever run your finger against a fan to hear the whup-whup-whup noise it makes, then you know what it sounds like. Except it's against metal, which is more worrisome.

I was so excited when I bought it and now I'm just disgusted and sad instead. It was originally going to get 1 star because it cooked food as it was supposed to. I gave it another star for having options and features. But with an oven this noisy, it's not worth it. Especially if you're paying full price. I'm glad that I paid 1/3 of what it is listed at, at a Dept. Store. However, I nearly jumped out of my skin from fright when I started it and it is going back tomorrow.

Extra note: Is it operator-error or an imbalanced countertop? I pulled out the contractor's level to double-check. My counter top is perfectly level, it was not sitting on anything unbalanced, and it was not touching any other appliances. It's the oven.

Review #2: So being the ever-lasting optimist (or just someone who can't let a good deal go), I purchased another one.I noticed that one leg was shorter than the others, and created an imbalance, but decided to try it anyway. When I clicked the "on" switch and turned the dial to 400 degrees, I held my breath, stepped back, and cringed... but the fan turned on with a gentle and not unpleasant whir. This was markedly different than the last 74766 I purchased, which buzzed and rattled. So I conclude that perhaps it was just a quality control issue. But at the price these were originally sold at, I would have hoped there were no issues! However, now that the mechanical issues are out of the way, I can finally review the oven itself.

It starts up relatively quietly and works well, has several features, though I didn't see a rotisserie option - that is in a different model, but it broils, bakes, and toasts. It comes with a very handy metal pizza disc, and can accommodate up to 12" pizzas and a whole roaster chicken; mind you - not at the same time.It is a bit large but not more than any 1.7 cubic ft. microwave, plus, it's shorter. There is a removable tray at the bottom (pulls out at the front for cleaning) and it comes in stainless or black knobs.I like the auto-shutoff timer option, and prefer the old-fashioned knobs to a digital interface. The oven itself seems sturdy enough, and has a nice metal handle (not plastic like others). It cooked quickly and relatively quietly.I am looking forward to roasting chickens and prepping dishes without needing my regular oven. But I can guarantee that I will be watching this oven closely for mechanical defects, which I'm sad about. If you buy something, you hope not to worry about it breaking!Nevertheless, if you're not paying full price for this oven, it's worth a try.Just buy two ;)

Krups FBC4-13 6-Slice Convection Digital Toaster Oven with Preset Cooking Functions Review

Krups FBC4-13 6-Slice Convection Digital Toaster Oven with Preset Cooking FunctionsThis is my first ever online product review but I am so impressed with this product I want to share my positive experience with others.

Having owned cheaper toaster ovens over the years, I was always disappointed with the product quality, reliability and performance. Whilethey all did an OK job of toasting a bagel or reheating a slice of pizza their use was limited, poorly constructed, flimsy and lacking features.

This time I was determined to purchase a quality high end, well constructed unit that not only offered more features but superior performance.

After much research on the web, reading customer/product reviews and doing in-store comparisions between various toaster ovens, I narrowed it down between the Krups FBC2 or FBC4 and the Cuisinart TOB-175C convection taster oven. Inthe end I decided to purchase and try out the Krups FBC2 toaster oven for the following reasons:

1 -The overall design, sleek appearance and most importantly, solid high quality contruction. Just compare product weight. The Krups appears to be more solid and better built, which may account for its added weight.
2 -The illuminated LCD digital controls are very intuitive and easy to use. The temperature adjusts in 25 degree increments proving to be a very fast and convenient feature. While some people might prefer 1 degree adjustments, I don't miss not being able to set it to odd settings such as 314 or 438 degress. 275, 300, 325, 350, 400, 425, 450 etc work fine for me.
3 - The offset grille provides more heating positions for more accurate heating and cooking.
4 - Even with its compact design, it has a slightly larger interior cooking area.
5 - Last and definately not least, I read only positive reviews about the quartz convection heating eliments, and having now used it, I can see why. This oven seems like it heats up almost instantanously with nice and even heat distribution. What an incredible improvement over the much cheaper units I have owned in the past.

I was so impressed with the Krups KBC2 toaster oven, I decided to return it and purchase the more expensive FBC4 model from Amazon because it offered even more features. Believe me, I am not disappointed. While the Krups FBC2 is an equally excellent product, the FBC4 also has:

1- A stainless steel exterior finish which I really like because of itsquality, appearance and durability, especially after reading reviews indicating there were issues with the Cuisinart exterior finish flaking.
2 - The convection oven feature significantly reduces cooking/reheating time.
3 - It has a Bagel toasting setting not available on the FB2 where it toasts bagels on the sliced side while only heating up the crust side.Like other units on the market, the FB2 toasts both sides. While this does a decent job of toasting bagels, the FB4 Bagel toasting feature results in a perfectly toasted bagel every time.
4 - While I have not yet used the defrost feature, I am looking forward to using it since I am not a big fan of microwaves.

In conclusion, I could not be happier with my decision to purchase aKrups toaster oven. The FB4 has definately exceeded my expectations and Ilook forward to using it for many years to come.
