I have been looking for a replacement toaster oven for some time. The majority seem either monstrously large (I really dont want another oven) or super small. So when I spotted the Oster I was attracted to it's nice mid sized capacity. It's large enough to toast 6 slices, hold an average size frozen pizza and cook a roast but it's small enough to fit in a lot of spaces also. Though it does have side handles for ease in moving it, they do not jut out far as they do on other models. The Oster is a very sleek looking machine. Stainless steel it has a rich look to it that makes other toaster ovens look cheap and plasticky. Very smooth and appealing.
The Oster also boasts some super nice features not seen on other models. There is a crumb tray that is at the bottom of the machine. It completely sides out by simply pulling the handle. With most machines the tray (if there is one) is INSIDE the machine and awkward to remove and clean. This tray is so easy to remove, clean up is a snap. No more toasted cheese drippings splayed all over the interior.
Another super nice feature is the way the food tray slides towards you when you open the door. No more reaching inside to pull out toast or your entree.
There are a couple drawbacks. With most machines you can simply press toast or dial bake and you are good to go. The Oster takes a bit more getting used to and to make toast I actually had to read the instruction booklet. To make toast you must first put control knob 1 in toast position. Then put control knob 2 at the heat setting for toast and finally dial the timer on control knob 3.
In order to use the machine you must dial the timer. For it to "ding" when your food is ready you must dial past the 15 minute mark. I am not sure why they made the machine this way. Also the markings for light and dark toast are small and hard to see. The other issue is that the timer makes a clicking noise as it counts down..like an egg timer..so it takes some getting used to. It is not noisy, I am just not used to hearing a toaster oven. If you are baking something for 60 minutes you will hear it clicking down the entire time. Kind of a soothing click, and eventually you are likely not to notice it, as I have found that to be the case. It was just odd at first getting used to it.
All in all I think the oven has some exceptionally nice features. It bakes, toasts and broils well and looks gorgeous (if a toaster oven can look gorgeous)and sleek on my countertop.
Very happy with this reasonably priced choice.
